CYNTHIA COHEN AT GALERÍA DEL PASEO
Since January 2nd at Galería del Paseo (Punta del Este, Uruguay), Cynthia Cohen presents Un jardín sobre una playa, una playa sobre una ciudad, una ciudad sobre un cerro (A garden on a beach, a beach on a city, a city on a hill) exhibition.
The exhibition of the Argentine artist consists of a series of images (oil paintings, mainly) and collages that constitute a cosmos. "In the spaces that Cynthia Cohen inhabits, the norm disappears. Far from the recipes of contemporary art, in this exhibition the artist presents us with a repertoire of objects in the form of a collage, an update of her desired images. It seems an arbitrary selection, and at the same time there is nothing chosen at random. Her figures are still clean and glossy, those that generate a direct effect on the viewer, an immediate "wow", but now they have been remixed carefully, "writes Natalia Malamute in the text that addresses the artworks.
Playing with the notion of vertigo and the excessive norm - at present everything is governed under norms -, the "disorder" that Cohen brings is "a kind of transition", explains with the right words Malamute. " She has given a show without slogans, in a time where slogans are appearing everywhere. Cynthia Cohen once again respected the pleasure she feels in painting, the vertigo that freedom brings, the more it asks as a question than as certainty. Now that I think about it, it was always like that. I tell them I know it well. "
