AN INTERSECTION BETWEEN AESTHETICS, POLITICS AND HUMANITY
Vigil Gonzáles in collaboration with Mahara+Co presented If Everything Has Already Been Decided…, a collective exhibition at ArtSpace.
If Everything Has Already Been Decided… brings together the work of River Claure (b. 1997, Bolivia), Javier Barilaro (b. 1974, Argentina), Karlo Andrei Ibarra (b. 1982, Puerto Rico), Rocio Guerrero (b. 1991, Chile), Gonzalo Hernandez (b. 1991, Perú), Karina Skvirsky (b. 1977, USA), Natalia Iguiñiz (b. 1973, Perú), José Luis Martinat (b. 1974, Perú), and Enrique Ramírez (b. 1974, Chile).
Art has long been recognized as a mirror reflecting the intricacies of society, a canvas on which human experiences, aspirations, and struggles are vividly captured. If Everything Has Already Been Decided delves into the intersection of aesthetics, politics, and humanity, celebrating the belief of countless artists, critics, and scholars that art serves as both a source of beauty and a potent tool for social commentary.
The selection of works chosen for this exhibition captures the quiet moments of introspection that mark the human experience, particularly that of the artists on view. Beauty is not pristine and polished, but emerges from the rough contours of existence.
Throughout the exhibition, works speak of the fragility of life, the weight of time, the consequences of politics in each of the contexts we inhabit and the inexorable passing of the days. They do not offer easy answers, but rather raise disturbing questions about the transitory nature of our existence and the relentless march of time.
If Everthing Has Already Been Decided… Collective exhibition.
Until November 26th, 2023.
