ON THE NATURE OF DAYLIGHT - JAIME TARAZONA IN NUEVEOCHENTA
On The Nature of Daylight embodies two interests of Tarazona: geometric figures and landscape. The former as part of the collage compositions and intervened photographs and the latter as part of his study of nature.
The construction of these pieces suggests a reproduction of the landscape in which details are abstracted and the beauty of nature is presented in a new language. In other words, Tarazona translates his vision and understanding of nature in a series of horizontal lines that are made up of different ranges of color. His drawings are a first approach to this study where he plays with the tones that are later transferred to the paintings of medium and large format. In this exercise, the artist dispenses with the curved line or any type of gestures and presents a careful study on the harmony of color and its combinations.

" Luciana Rizo details in the curatorial text.
Tarazona, for his part, adds: “Finding a way to represent the natural landscape, the natural beauty, has been a constant persistence in my projects for more than fifteen years. Each investigation on this topic has led me to represent it in different media, and at the same time, to propose an analysis from observation and inquiry, which leads me to review, in some cases, the history of art of the last three centuries and its impact on generations of contemporary artists. "
Jaime Tarazona (Bucaramanga, Colombia, 1973) has developed his work around the paradoxes that contemporary society has inherited from modernism. The notions of utopia, order and rationality are analyzed in sculpture, collage and painting with the aim of highlighting the logics of power that underlie them. In particular, the Colombian reality is read from a glance towards the periphery - that rural periphery that is constructed as opposition to the center of the large cities.
His work is part of the collections of the Banco de la República de Colombia, the SPACE Collection (formerly Sayago & amp; Pardon) and Adriana Cisneros in Miami.
He lives and works in Bogotá.
