A Discussion About the Growth of Miami’s Art Community

The growth of Miami's art community raises questions about its development and direction: How far has it come as an art center with relevance to both the regional landscape and the international art world?

How does its evolution compare with that of other cities, and what lessons can be learned and applied from such comparisons? What elements are still needed to add more dimensions? How can stakeholders build on current successes and guide expansion, nurturing innovation while retaining Miami's distinct character?

Six resident art professionals will share their observations and visions for Miami's future: Jeremy Chestler, Director of the Art Center South Florida; Rosie Gordon-Wallace, Founder, Curator and Director of Diaspora Vibe Gallery and Arts Incubator; Tami Katz-Freiman, Curator, Art Historian and Critic; Enrique Martinez Celaya, Artist, Writer, Founder and Publisher of the Whale & Star Studio and Imprint; and Gean Moreno, Artist, Curator and Critic. Moderated by Margery Gordon, Art Critic and Journalist, Instructor at Barry University.
