Alexander Apóstol, Ronald Morán and Randall Weeks in Formes & Desformes
ZAK Gallery, from Siena, inaugutared “Formes & Desformes” curated by Antonio Arévalo. The exhibition involves three Latin American artists internationally known: Alexander Apóstol (Venezuela, 1969), Ronald Morán (El Salvador, 1972) and Ishmael Randall Weeks (Perú, 1976).
Arévalo proposes “a glimpse of what is today Latin American art, art that is measured in various ways with the reality of those countries marked by a history of oppression and poverty in a territory changed profoundly by capitalist economy, with areas of light and darkness (Apóstol) muffled (Morán), rarefied and consumed by a power who changes the borders and the inside geography of those lands (Randall Weeks)”.
Ishmael Randall Weeks was born in Lima (Peru) in 1976. In 2000 he received a scholarship to Bard College grant for the project. In 2003 he obtained a Full Fellowship to Vermont Studio Art Center, Vermont, USA and 2007 in Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture, USA. Alexander Apóstol was born in Barquisimeto, Venezuela in 1969. Apostól has exhibited at the Tate Modern, the National Museum Reina Sofia, MUSAC (Spain), The Aldrich Contemporary Museum, Museo Rufino Tamayo (Mexico); NGBK, (Germany), Centro Galego de Arte Contemporáneo (Spain), Martin-Gropius-Bau (Germany), MACSI (Venezuela) Museum of Contemporary Photography in Chicago, CIFO (USA), Museo de Arte in Lima (Peru), Los Angeles Contemporary Exhibitions, MADC, (Costa Rica), Harvard University, (USA); Apóstol participated in the Triennial San Juan Poly / Graphic, the first edition of the Biennale of the Canary Islands, the Prague Biennale II, the VIII Biennial of Cuenca, the VIII Biennial of Istanbul, the XXV Bienal de São Paulo and VI Biennial of Havana. It was released in 100 Artistas Latinoamericanos (EXIT 2008), Vitamin PH (Phaidon), Art & Photography Now (Thames & Hudson), Blink (Phaidon) and the artist's book The Wild Revolutionary Primetime (2010). The monograph that is dedicated to the artist: Alexander Apóstol / Modern Tropical (Actar / MUSAC 2010).
Ronald Morán was born in El Salvador in 1972 and boasts more than 150 exhibitions in major international locations. He has represented his country in 2003 at the Biennial of the Caribbean in Santo Domingo, in 2004 at the Biennial of Cuenca, Ecuador, the Prague Biennale II in 2005, the VII Biennale di Venezia in 2007. In 2001 he received an honorable mention at the first Biennial of Art in the Paizo in the category of guest artists.
Antonio Arévalo is a poet, translator, project developers, consultants and independent art curator. His artistic and literary takes place between Rome and Santiago de Chile, ranging from art to theater to poetry. Arevalo stands out immediately for his creative personality and his artistic sensibility. In the '80s, known for his poetic work, the journalist writing, the theater projects. In the following decade became the protagonist of the Italian art scene as a curator of contemporary art, enhancing relations with the intellectuals and creating opportunities for exchange between Latin American and Italian artists. Commissioner of Chile to the 49th edition of the Biennale di Venezia (Juan Downey, Honorable Mention by the International Jury), the Biennale Adriatica Arti Nuove, San Benedetto del Tronto, Chile, and Pavilion at the 53 edition Biennale di Venezia "Making Words" (Iván Navarro).
