EXPLORING THE PRESENT IN A COLLECTIVE WAY AT PROA
The exhibition Conjeturas. Exploring art today, curated by Rodrigo Alonso, gathers pieces by Andrés Aizicovich, Sergio Avello, Elena Dahn, Iara Freiberg, Mauro Giaconi, Silvia Gurfein, Alicia Herrero, La Chola Poblete, Analía Sabán, Mariela Scafati, Alan Segal, Juan Sorrentino, Amparo Viau and Dolores Zinny & Juan Maidagan.
Conjeturas. Exploring Art Today is an invitation to delve into artistic speculation and visual discovery. Through a variety of media and styles, ranging from painting and sculpture to installation and video art, the participating artists explore themes ranging from identity and politics to culture and tradition.
The selection encompasses different languages, aesthetics and media that, arranged in the exhibition space, maintain a fluid dialogue and trace a panorama of local artistic production. Unintentionally (or not), they are in tune with the complexities of a world in a permanent state of conjecture. Throughout the tour through the galleries, artists and spectators invariably encounter questions and uncertainties, with no certainties about the future.
Conjectures –hypotheses, ideas, suppositions or hints based on observation, reasoning or intuition– play a significant role in the field of creation. Artists often venture into new territories, experimenting with different approaches and techniques, and formulate hypotheses prior to the production of a work, inviting the viewer to make his or her own interpretations, broadening readings and perspectives that will invariably lead to further conjectures.
