FLAVIA GANDOLFO: "DE UN PUNTO A OTRA" AT THE MUSEO DE ARTE DE LIMA
Curated by Miguel López, “From one point to the other” is the first monographic exhibition of the artist, one of the most outstanding photographers of her generation. The exhibition is open to the public from November 12, 2020 to May 16, 2021.
Her photographs emphasize how social realities are defined by gender, class and race marks, which confront us with a broad set of inequalities and forms of oppression in society. The exhibition includes a series of unpublished photographs, which document the behind the scenes of a group of trans gender people, taken between 1990 and 1991 in Lima.
Flavia Gandolfo (b. Lima, 1967) lives and works in Lima, where she is represented by the CRISIS Gallery.
“Flavia Gandolfo's work expresses a specific bet on the relationship between photography and reality. Her work emerged at the end of the eighties influenced by the visual codes of portraiture and direct photography, to move shortly after towards a questioning of photographic realism through the manipulation of the copying process and then towards more experimental uses of photographic support. Her distrust of the apparent objectivity of the medium did not mean, however, a resignation to the critical desires of photography, but a search for political meanings beyond the 'truth effect' of the image." - Miguel A.
