MARCELA CANTUÁRIA: EL SUEÑO SUDAMERICANO
El sueño sudamericano es la primera exposición individual de la artista en el PAMM, en Estados Unidos. Marcela Cantuária invita al espectador a considerar la naturaleza de estos sueños.

La artista destaca las narrativas de activistas críticos y ecologistas de Sudamérica que persiguieron sus sueños a través de la resistencia y luchando por sus países y su tierra, incluyendo figuras como Chico Mendes, Dorothy Stang, Maria do Espírito Santo da Silva, Túpac Amaru y Juana Azurduy de Padilla, entre otros.
Mientras que su investigación pone de relieve dónde se encuentran las luchas y las injusticias, sus pinturas señalan la belleza de la lucha que a menudo persiste en estas historias; así, las pinturas se convierten en monumentos para figuras icónicas sudamericanas que, a pesar de los peligros y las devastadoras adversidades, lucharon por sus visiones. En El sueño sudamericano, Cantuária eleva y revive estas historias, ideales y batallas, compartiendo con el espectador la riqueza de los recursos naturales sudamericanos que tantos luchan por proteger.
La obra de Marcela Cantuária (1991, Río de Janeiro; vive en Río de Janeiro) suele retratar figuras femeninas que navegan por fronteras regionales, internacionales y sociales. A menudo resalta símbolos del tarot y la astrología, así como temas que reflejan el activismo político y medioambiental en América Latina, tejiendo narrativas de esferas sociales, asociaciones políticas y deseos etéreos. Las vívidas y coloridas obras de Cantuária son prueba de su versatilidad e investigación a través de diversos medios y técnicas, como la pintura, el textil y la cerámica.
