María Inés Rodríguez Appointed Director of CAPC, Bordeaux, France

Between 2011 and 2013 Mrs. Rodríguez Fernández held the position of chief curator at the Museo Universitario de Arte Contemporaneo (MUAC) in Mexico City, where she led the public, collections, and exhibitions programs, and curated and developed ambitious projects with Teresa Margolles, Nicolás Paris, Yona Friedman and La Ribot. From 2009 to 2011 she was chief curator at the Museo de Arte Contemporáneo de Castilla y Léon (MUSAC) in Spain, with a program dealing with the links between artistic production and historic, political and social contexts, favouring a dialogue on the local and global. This approach was reflected in a series of solo exhibitions that included Claire Fontaine and Alexander Apóstol, as well as in group exhibitions such as El Grito, and Model Kits, and in the collection of monographic editions Arte y Arquitectura AA MUSAC. In 2008 and 2009 she was the Curator of the Satellite Programme at Jeu de Paume in Paris where she introduced the French audience to young international artists such as Vasco Araujo, Mario Garcia Torres, Agathe Snow, Irina Botea, and Angelo Plessas and Andreas Angelidakis.

Parallel to her curatorial work, Mrs. Rodríguez Fernández has organized public lectures and exhibitions around the topics of printed matter and architecture. In 2005 she formed Tropical Paper editions, which now exists as an active website dedicated to contemporary creation in the Tropical region. Her numerous editions include newspapers Instant City, Bogotham City, and Sueño de Casa Propia. She has also been editor in chief of the French art publication Point d’Ironie in Paris.

María Inés Rodríguez Fernández studied Fine Arts at the University of Los Andes in Bogotá and at the Ecole nationale supérieure des Beaux-Arts de Paris (atelier Christian Boltanski), and holds a post-graduate degree from the Ecole Superieure d'Art Visuel in Geneva. As an independent curator, she has worked principally on exhibition and research projects on the strategies for the appropriation of public space in art, design, architecture and urbanism. Her experience as independent curator includes collaborations with the Plateau (Paris), Centre d’Edition contemporaine de Genève, Ex-Teresa – Mexico and ARCO Foundation.

María Inés Rodríguez Fernández is currently living and working between Mexico City and Berlin, and is developing exhibitions of Teresa Margolles for the Centro de Arte Dos de Mayo (CA2M) in Madrid, Rosa Barba for Fundidora in Monterrey (Mexico), Beyond the Super Square for the Bronx Museum of the Arts (New York), and is preparing a retrospective on filmmaker Alejandro Jodorowsky’s works.

She will take office in Bordeaux end of February 2014.
