Hotbed Miami 2012 highlights four students from the NWSA college visual arts program and is based on the creation of four videos that will be shown at the Deauville Beach Resort during the most renowned international art fair. The four visual artists who are participating in this initiative are Azizi DeSouza, Steven Marquez, Jeffrey Noble, and Sebastian Duncan Portuondo.
Selected by Grela Orihuela and Bill Bilowit, of Wet Heat Project, and based on the candidates’ conceptual and creative voice, this year's HOTBED Miami 2012 student artists are challenged to create a site-specific video work to be exhibited 24/7 at NADA Miami Beach 2012 in the fair venue's public atrium at the Deauville Beach Resort, as well as on every TV in the Deauville's 484 guest rooms.
"This unique opportunity allows our students to grow exponentially, offering a way to showcase their work beyond the confines of an educational environment," said Maggy Cuesta, Dean of the visual arts program at NWSA. "By joining with respected partners in the field of the arts, such as wet Heat Project and NADA, who actively participate in the development and promotion of the arts in our community, our students are able to expand their reach and highlight their skills, knowledge and creativity to a higher and more astute audience that knows and respects the world of the arts.”
None of the four students specializes in digital media art, so the design and production of the work using unfamiliar skills is a great challenge. Each student’s piece must be strong enough to attract viewers, both in public spaces and in more intimate places such as the guest rooms.

During the Mentor Workshop, conducted at the Rubell Family Collection Library, each student presented their work-in-progress to a special panel: artist Dara Friedman, RFC Co-Founder Mera Rubell, Director Mara Sartore of the Circuito Off Venice International Film Festival, and the Miami-based art collector and Locust Projects Board Member Jorge A. Garcia, who has generously provided production funds for the students.
The works’ progress will be featured online, including images and stories of the artists in the Hotbed Miami 2012 website http://hotbedmiami.com/2012/

Hotbed Miami 2012 will be open to the public on December 6, 7, 8 and 9. The Deauville Beach Resort Hotel is located at 6701 Collins Ave Miami Beach, FL 33141.
