Pinta London : A Complete Success
Tate and Centre Georges Pompidou are among the museums to choose major Latin American art works at the first Pinta London Art Show
During the first London Pinta art show, strong sales were seen across the board in a packed Earls Court Exhibition Centre. At this inaugural modern and contemporary Latin American art show, over 2,000 enthusiastic international private and public collectors attended the opening, with a further 4,000 visitors during the show, as they competed for paintings, sculptures, drawings, photographs, videos and installations by some of Latin America’s most celebrated artists.
Museum curators had a challenging choice in what to choose from among the 50 renowned international galleries exhibiting. Pinta’s Museum Acquisitions Program enables important institutions to buy Latin American works of art, through a matching funding system:
· Tate, London: acquired an ink drawing on paper by Brazilian Lygia Pape from Arevalo Arte and also they incorporated four works on paper by Brazilian Paolo Brusky from Galeria Nara Roesler
· Centre Georges Pompidou, Paris: acquired work by Argentinian artist Marta Minujin from Henrique Faría Fine Art
· University of Essex Collection of Latin American Art, Colchester: acquired a pair of works on paper by Argentinian artist Ana Sacerdote; an oil on board by Uruguayan Gaston Olalde from Sammer Galleries and two works by Mexican Demián Flores from Ginocchio Gallery
· Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía, Madrid: acquired a video by Argentinian artist David Lamelas from Henrique Faría Fine Art
· Museo de Arte Contemporáneo de Barcelona, MACBA: acquired a video by Venezuelan artist Claudio Perna from Henrique Faría Fine Art
· Middlesbrough Institute of Modern Art, MIMA, Middlesbrough: acquired works on paper by Argentinian artist Horacio Zabala from Henrique Faría Fine Art
Alejandro Zaia, Chairman of London Pinta Art Show stated, “This first PINTA in London has surpassed all our expectations and those of the interested parties. The quality of the presentation, the level of the attendees, and the successful sales proved that this was the right moment to launch this project in Europe”.
