REALITY/FICTION OF FEMINISM – MUSEO EVITA REOPENS WITH AN EXHIBITION OF FÁTIMA PECCI CAROU

Under the title of "Flags and pennants: Evita", Fátima presents her first institutional exhibition in Buenos Aires. Curated by Eva Grinstein, the exhibition refers to the imagery of demostrations, feminism, Peronism and the artist's otaku passion.

The selection consists of sixteen paintings -oil and acrylic on canvas- presented in formats that combine various affinities of the artist: flags that symbolize the spirit of the public demonstrations, the banners of the murgas and the banners of the mobilizations in which Fatima regularly participates as part of her feminist and Peronist commitment; pennants supported by thin rods, an inexpensive and popular means of image reproduction that is part of the merchandising of party events, the sports world, and souvenir shops. And, as Fátima discovers in the heat of her passion, her otaku (that's what they call in the West the fanaticism for manga and anime) also used in Japan under the name of kakemono.

"The paintings represent Costumbrist scenes around the figure of Eva Perón and her relationship with the women of her time" postulates the curator. “But although they are based on a deep survey of historical and biographical facts, the artist applies a sieve of fiction and fantasy to them, evident both in her nods to Japanese animation and in the alteration of temporal events and the invention of characters and settings. Thus arises a real/ imagined Evita, re-created from current feminist struggles, nurtured by her own legend and at the same time permeable to a new look that plays lovingly with her legacy."
