Remembrance: Cora Lichtschein de Sueldo
Cora Sueldo’s untimely passing on November 11th has left me with an enormous sense of loss, as it undoubtedly has with many other writers and critics with whom she worked during twenty-five years as translator and editor for Arte al Dia International.
As a consulting editor to the magazine, I worked closely with Cora who translated my writings from English to Spanish. Her translations were always on spot not only because of her mastery of both languages, but because she understood my thinking and its written expression. I have never worked with a better translator. Cora, a professional par excellence, attained the high standard required for bilingual translations worthy of first-rate publication.
Cora, you understood the importance of each writer’s contribution, the need for mutual exchanges with the writer concerning ideas and their meaning.
Your extraordinary generosity, tenderness, and infinite abundance of patience and goodwill made you unique. I will miss you profoundly, as will all who learned and benefitted from your linguistic talents. In your next journey, may your spirit exude the same beneficence we were privileged to receive.
