The artist proposes a unique piece, an extensive performance to the Pavilion that organized by the Secretary of State of International Cooperation of the Minister of Exterior Issues and Cooperation, through the Direction of Cultural and Scientific Relations of the AECID with the collaboration of the Spanish Cultural Action, will be developed between the 4th and 27th November 2011.

Dora Garcia proposes one piece only, titled L’Inadeguato, Lo Inadecuado, The Inadequate, a choral performance in continuous evolution during the six months of the biennale and realized by about seventy participants. This performance will be supported by a publication and will use several objects and documents that will be presented to the public in a file format.

In the words of the artist, “ The Inadequate wants to substitute the idea of exposition by occupation, the idea demonstrates of artist by the of a theatre of expositions, the idea of national pavilion by pavilion that is known in a country and in a determined history”.

The concept of the inadequacy that references to its title is perfectly explained by the following words of Ervin Goffman, in Encounters (1961): “the clumsy or disordered being, speaking or moving wrongly, is being a dangerous giant, a world destroyer. Like every psychotic or every comic already knows, an inappropriate but precise movement can sow the fine fabric of the immediate reality”.

In commissioner words: “In the Spanish pavilion, Geacia proposes the project L’Inadeguato, Lo Inadecuado, The Inadequate, that literally refers to the sentiment of the inadequacy that the artists felt into the relation to their paper in the complex ambient of the Biennale and the Spanish Pavilion. In the ones that she had been invited to participate. Respect to this, Garcia refers to the premises of the sociologist Ervin Goffman about the inadequacy. The project consists in a unique piece: a ‘extensive performance’ that last the entire Venice Biennale that, like she herself explains, underlines the ‘fragile violence of everything that we consider adequate. It form of dissidence, escaping from the centre. The Inadequate responds to the necessity of not finishing the expectations, of not being what one expects.

“If for the artist the concept of the inadequacy extends beyond the artistic environment and enters into a social taboo, the Inadequate pursues a comprehension of the marginality like a conceptual approximation to creative, not only with social ramifications but also with political and social. The marginality is considered like a political position inside the artistic practice, and the inadequacy like the necessity of remaining distant from the dominant in the cultural speech”.

The Inadequate is a choral piece authority, which has told since the beginning with a group of authors in respect to which Dora Garcia has played the role of initiator and host.
