TERCERUNQUINTO Exhibits Otros Fueros

at the Espai d'art contemporani de Castelló

Tercerunquinto was created in 1998 in Monterrey, Mexico and it is composed of Julio Castro, Gabriel Cazares, and Rolando Flores. The collective has developed projects intervening in both public and private spaces, questioning the limits between both, disarticulating the elements that compose these systems, and dismantling the logical order of their interrelations.

As a collective, they have tried to defy the architectonic and urban frontiers that are systemized around the constitution and organization of a system, examining their implications and their effects on the personal, social, cultural, and political orders.
The exhibition proposal, Otros fueros, consists in showing a selection of six works made over the past six years (2004-2010), and a project conceived specifically for the context of the city of Castellón, which serves as a formulation or a prologue for this exhibition. The selection follows a conceptual criterion that shows the part of its work that refers to certain dynamics in which the solution of the work is extended to other agents. The selected and documented works are: Proyecto para MUCA Roma, 2004; Guardarropa, 2006; Vecindad, 2007; Proyecto para el Museo de Arte Álvar y Carmen T. de Carrillo Gil, 2008; Economía de solidaridad, 2009 and Borrador, 2010.
The exhibition of this selection of works will be accompanied by three proposals created specifically for this event; they are the result of an invitation posed to three curators who have been entrusted with conceptualizing the documentation on three of the works that are being exhibited from a formal perspective. These new proposals will be later editions (versions). The invited curators are: Álvaro de los Ángeles, María del Carmen Carrión, and Daniel McClean. Through their ideas, each has formally and aesthetically defined one of the works shown at Tercerunquinto. The collective has distanced itself from this process and has transferred the responsibility to the curators involved. This exercise has led to a rethinking of the concept of documentation in the artwork and its editions in the commercial field of the art market. Under these premises, the space of the museum becomes the stage that showcases at the same time, the variations and the responses the curators produce in relation to the documents that the collective defined for the first editions.

On April 15th, at 7:00 p.m. there will be a meeting between Tercerunquinto and Álvaro de los Ángeles at the EACC. Admission is free
