THE MOAD AT MIAMI CONTINUES TO PROPOSE ACTIVITIES FOR URBAN AND SOCIAL DEVELOPMENT THROUGH ART
After a conference directed by George Yudice in which Marcus Faustini, Marcos García and Osvaldo Sánchez participated in the Miami Museum of Art and Design (MOAD) at Miami Dade College (MDC), a workshop for urban transformation through cultural production is developed. Thus, City Lab: Transforming Cities through Innovative Cultural Action joins a series of activities established in the Miami museum to improve the life quality in cities through multidisciplinary projects.
During the Wednesday conference, Faustini, García and Sánchez discussed the initiatives and the context of their local urban environments, exposing projects carried out by the cultural institutions they direct.
In the first place, Marcos García is the Artistic Director of MediaLab Prado in Madrid, a citizen laboratory for production, research and dissemination of cultural projects. On the other hand, Osvaldo Sánchez is artistic director of inSite / Casa Gallina, a space located in Santa María de la Ribera (Mexico City) that facilitates projects proposed by local residents, constituting a collective body "exposed to conflict, "he says. Finally, Marcus Faustini is a theater director, filmmaker, writer and activist who lives in Rio de Janeiro, where he coordinates the Agência de Redes para Juventude, a project that provides platforms to invent creative projects within the favelas.
As for the workshop that takes place this afternoon, it consists of a workspace to think and develop specific strategies and methodologies related to the empowerment of the citizens of Miami. Placing artistic and creative practices in a social collaboration plan, City Lab: Transforming Cities through Innovative Cultural Action is a project that believes in urban transformation based on intellectual work and reflexive processes.
