The 10th Monterrey FEMSA Biennial is being held in Mexico City

As part of the celebration for its more than 20 years of continuous support to contemporary art, the Monterrey FEMSA Biennial is inaugurating a major exhibition on Thursday, March 21 at the Antiguo Colegio de San Ildefonso (Ancient School of San Ildefonso).

The 10th Monterrey FEMSA Biennial is being held in Mexico City

The exhibition comprises 120 works by 86 artists, arranged according to three main axes: the works selected for the 10th edition; award-winning works from the 1st to the 9th edition; and “Sextanisqatsi: desorden habitable”, a selection of works by 11 guest artists from Latin America.

The public will be able to appreciate the 82 works selected by the Jury of the 10th Monterrey FEMSA Biennial, composed of artists Leda Catunda and Pierre-Olivier Arnaud, and of art critics Karen Cordero, Itala Schmelz and Carlos-Blas Galindo. These works include the winners of the Acquisition Prizes in each of the participating formats: “Fin del camino I”, by the Sonora-born artist Miguel Fernández in the two-dimensional format, and Artist”, by Marianna Dellekamp, hailing from the Federal District, in the three-dimensional one.

The exhibition also includes a retrospective of the prize-winning works of the nine previous editions of this contest, and a show titled “Sextanisqatsi: desorden habitable”, curated by José Roca, which features the vision of 11 guest artists from nine Latin American countries − Argentina, Brazil, Colombia, Costa Rica, Guatemala, Mexico, Nicaragua, Panama and Venezuela − who address the different forms of urban self-organization that emerge in each country. Of Colombian origin, Roca has been the curator of some of the most relevant projects and events in the field of the visual arts at a global level. He is currently the Estrellita B. Brodsky Adjunct Curator of Latin American Art at Tate Modern, London; he was also a jury member for the 52nd Venice Biennial (2007), and served as co-curator at the 27th Sao Paulo Biennial (2006), artistic director of the Philagrafika Triennial, Philadelphia, USA ( 2010) , and Chief Curator of the 8th Mercosur Biennial (2011), among other positions.

The exhibition will run until June 30, 2013.
