The Harvard Art Museums will open Doris Salcedo: The Materiality of Mourning on November 4th. The exhibition, curated by Mary Schneider Enriquez, focuses on the last 15 years of Salcedo’s career and is presented in four distinct installations.
Included are two monumental cement and wood furniture pieces; ghostly cloaks of silk threaded with thousands of needles; an installation of stainless steel chairs; and a room-sized shroud composed entirely of sutured rose petals.
A comprehensive catalogue published by the Harvard Art Museums draws on more than a decade of research by the exhibition curator.
In October 2017, Doris Salcedo’s site-specific installation, Palimpsest, will open at the Palacio de Cristal, Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía in Madrid.
