The New Artistic director for MALBA | Museo de Arte Latinoamericano de Buenos Aires
The recent appointment of the internationally acclaimed historian and curator Agustín Pérez Rubio (Valencia, Spain, 1972) as Artistic Director of MALBA is an event of great importance, since it ratifies a new era of the museum.
His vision of Latin American and International Contemporary Art, his tenure as Chief Curator (2003-2008) and then as Director (2009-2013) of the Museum of Contemporary Art of Castilla and Leon, Spain, together with his outstanding experience as an independent curator and in institutions such as the Reina Sofia Museum, Madrid and the 50th Venice Biennale, among others, were some of the factors that determined the choice of MALBA of making Pérez Rubio responsible for the collection, exhibitions, publications and cultural extension of MALBA. This decision along with the architectural expansion project enroll in a period of expansion and strengthening of the institutional structure of the museum. In the words of Eduardo F. Costantini, Founder and President of Malba: "The appointment reflects the museum’s determination to bring a comprehensive and organic vision to MALBA. It is a strategic choice on the part of the museum as it builds a solid future in the medium and long terms.” We wish Agustín Pérez Rubio a fruitful and successful performance in his new position. Congratulations!
