VERÓNICA RIEDEL'S LAST WEEK AT LA NEOMUDÉJAR

By Álvaro de Benito

The CAV La Neomudéjar Museum is in its final days of exhibiting Ecos del Vacío (Echoes of the Void), a project developed by Guatemalan filmmaker and artist Verónica Riedel during her artistic residency at Kárstica Espacio de Creación, in the town of Cañada del Hoyo, Cuenca.

VERÓNICA RIEDEL'S LAST WEEK AT LA NEOMUDÉJAR

This multimedia work invites us to reflect on socio-political and economic issues, immigration, and memory. Connected to the setting of the residency, it also explores its environmental impact and focuses on themes of abandonment and pollution, which echo her usual body of work.

In addition to the canvases displayed in the dedicated space, a video featuring a visual poem is presented. The environment is shaped by organic sounds, combined with spoken words, and enhanced by local materials such as wicker, leaves, and limestone, forming a complete installation. Through this, the aim is to reclaim ancestral traditions as key elements for achieving sustainability.

Echoes of the Void. Verónica Riedel will be on view until April 6 at the Museo CAV La Neomudéjar, Antonio Nebrija, s/n, Madrid (Spain).
