ZONAMACO: LESS THAN A WEEK FOR THE MOST IMPORTANT ART FAIR IN LATIN AMERICA
Less than a week away, Mexico City prepares for the most relevant art fair in Latin America. The 16th edition of ZONAMACO México Contemporary Art will be held from February 6 to 10 and will bring together more than 180 galleries from around the world. The works exhibited at the fair range from historical archives and works by modern artists to contemporary productions.
The call for the sixteenth edition of the fair is characterized by the variety. General Section, New Proposals, ZONAMACO South, Modern Art and ZONAMACO Design are some of the sections that constitute it. In addition, an extensive program of conferences carried out by prominent figures of the international scene will take place during the ten days of the fair; an editorial section and publications with a space for the presentation of books; and a parallel program of activities and exhibitions in the most prestigious galleries and museums in Mexico.
In relation to ZONAMACO’s new edition, its founder, Zélika García, gave some details: "For this new edition of the fair, we are pleased to welcome new galleries and the galleries that return; Tania Ragasol, artistic director of ZONAMACO, and the selection committees, were in charge of choosing the galleries of the General and Modern Art sections; For the second year in a row, the curator of the ZONAMACO South section will be Kiki Mazzuchelli (São Paulo, 1972) with a focus on the idea of the 'performative' and for the first time, the curator of the New Proposals section will be José Esparza Chong Cuy ( Mexicali, 1984). We will also carry out SAMPLE, an exhibition curated by him and to be presented inside the fair room. " The huge call shows that in the Mexican fair there are no limits, the only criterion is the high quality production.
Giving space to experimental and emerging artists, as is the case of the New Proposals section, curated by José Esparza Chong Cuy; to those who have been exploring in the language of the performative in relation to the other artistic disciplines in ZONAMACO South; or simply to the artists and galleries of the Modern Art sector -directed by Alejandra Yturbe, Mariana Pérez Amor and Enrique Guerrero- who, through their trajectory and creativity, have managed to position themselves within the international artistic scene, ZONAMACO is a fair that manifests its commitment to represent all sectors within the international artistic community.
