Notes related to Japan

The Venice Biennale 2024 offers an exceptional platform for examining the challenges and opportunities facing the future. The pavilions of Japan, Germany, Switzerland and Hungary trace different forms of looking at and thinking about the world to come, projecting visions of the environment, equilibrium, adaptation, world order and, of course, collective memory.

The Niemeyer Center, in the Asturian city of Aviles, hosts Tokyo Blues hacia Gritos Sordos (From Tokyo Blues to Deaf Cries), an exhibition by Brazilian photographer Miguel Rio Branco (Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, Spain, 1946) that traces a journey through his work of crossed images and pieces that were conceived from his personal experience on a trip to Japan, a country whose culture and names in cinema, art and architecture have always fascinated the artist.

The Japan Foundation, the commissioner of the Japan Pavilion presents Compose, a solo exhibition created by Yuko Mohri and curated by Sook-Kyung Lee at the 60^th International Venice Biennale.

The exhibition David Hockney, held at the Museum of Contemporary Art Tokyo is the largest ever solo exhibition in Asia devoted to the British artist David Hockney, one of the most innovative artists of the postwar era.

The Chilean artist Alfredo Jaar is the winner of the 11^th Hiroshima Art Prize and will present an exhibition at the Hiroshima City Museum of Contemporary Art.
