CAMILA RODRIGO'S FORMS IN LA GALERÍA
La Galería presents La forma resignificada (The Redefined Form), a solo painting exhibition by Peruvian visual artist. The show brings together a remarkable selection of 14 recent medium- and large-format works created using mixed media on canvas.

In her paintings, Camila Rodrigo constructs perceptual layers through sensual applications of color and texture, using them to give structure to the pictorial plane. It is crucial to highlight that, for the artist, black is a transcendent color.
At the beginning of the process, the canvas—stretched over a frame—lies on the floor, awaiting decantation. From nothingness, in the apparent void the support offers the eye, a methodical ritual begins, marked by serenity and concentration, giving form to an imagined latency. These layers and levels are expressive sedimentations of the artist’s temperament: subtle and precise, delicate and stripped down.

Something begins to take form—and perhaps meaning—at the very moment when pigments, generously applied across the surface of the canvas and dissolved in fluid agents, begin to dry like a veined skin. This drying unfolds within a temporal order that Camila Rodrigo organizes, controls, and supervises as part of her commitment to achieving the demands of her deeply personal visual approach.
“Camila Rodrigo is immersed in abstract painting and surrenders to the creation of the canvas surface with speed and precision. The painting is that two-dimensional surface that, once painted, condenses into a single reality—an illusory space devoid of dimensions, unfathomable to the viewer’s eye; as subtle and transparent, almost made of light and air, as it is dense and stirring. The pictorial space is pure creation,” says Jorge Villacorta, curator of the exhibition.

Peruvian contemporary art is experiencing a vibrant moment. Over the past decade, its art ecosystem has begun to consolidate, with a growing local collector base, a more professional gallery scene, and an increasing number of artists gaining international visibility. However, it remains an early stage, with a small and fragile market that requires stronger structures to support its development. Unlike other countries in the region, Peru lacks strong institutional support for contemporary art.
