DISPLACEMENT, TRAVEL AND EXCHANGE. THE GROUP EXHIBITION AT GALATEA
Cais is the group show at Galatea gallery, curated by Alana Silveira and Tomás Toleto, presenting works by 60 artists from the Northeast Brazil.

The exhibition is grounded on the production of the four Northeast Brazilian artists that the gallery works with: Aislan Pankararu, Chico da Silva, José Adário, and Miguel dos Santos. The exhibition is structured around the key elements and themes of these artists' production, giving rise to four core segments: Fantasies of fauna and flora; Afro-Indigenous and Brazilian geometries; Expanded masks; and Representations of Afro-Indigenous and Brazilian religiosity and culture.
"The title 'Cais' recalls the ideas of displacement, travel, exchange and interchange that surround the concept of Galatea's arrival in Salvador and, at the same time, refer to the gallery's location. Situated on the ground floor of the modernist Bráulio Xavier building (which houses an important panel by Carybé, the Argentine artist based in Salvador), located on Rua Chile, the first street in Brazil, the gallery is in the area of the old Portal de Santa Luzia, one of Salvador's gateways during the period when it was walled, which connected the port (quays) to the upper city via the Ladeira da Conceição da Praia.
(...)
'Cais' asks permission to arrive in Salvador and invites you to get to know its works and its stories."
