THE COMMUNION OF KINGDOMS AT LA GALERÍA
Mateo Cabrera presents at LA GALERÍA the exhibition La Comunión de los Reinos (The Communion of Kingdoms), with nine recent works of medium and large format in oil on canvas and a set of small format works in mixed media.
Mateo Cabrera throughout his career has been characterized by working free compositions in which figuration and poetry go hand in hand articulating stories full of humor and fantasy. For this exhibition he starts from real characters that he includes in magical scenarios in which a narrative close takes place, creating an imaginary world that he captures throughout a plastic discourse, in some cases meticulously –almost photographically– captured, and in others, with soft and subtle touches in which the diluted and transparent material serves as background and support at the same time.
For the followers of his work in which his singular vision of flora and fauna has predominated, in his recent work the central axis is the human body, from which Nature emerges and generates at the same time enriching his creative process with the use of drawing and collage. For the artist each work in itself is a visual poem full of mystery and symbolism that appeal to our unconscious and intuition rather than to reason.
