MARÍA SANCHO ARROYO'S NEW BOOK ON HOW TO NAVIGATE THE ART MARKET
¿Inversión o pasión? Una guía para navegar por el mercado del arte (Investment or passion? A guide to navigating the art market) is the new book by María Sancho-Arroyo, where the author delves into the world of art collecting.
In 2019, a piece of artwork that an old woman had forgotten in her kitchen in Paris was sold at auction for 24 million euros. The woman spent years without knowing that this a priori irrelevant piece of wood, now on display at the Louvre Museum, was actually the mocked Christ, by the Italian painter Cimabue. Of course, it is not normal to find such a treasure in a kitchen, but it is a fascinating example of the importance of knowing, valuing and dedicating time to art.
Surrounded by a halo of luxury and exclusivity, the world of collecting seems unattainable for most enthusiasts. However, it is more accessible than it seems and a rewarding activity as long as two fundamental characteristics are present: artistic passion and knowledge of the market.
María Sancho-Arroyo has been working with artists, collectors and investors for thirty years, and for two decades she worked at the famous auction house Sotheby's. From the backroom of that universe of sophistication she opens the door to readers with this guide that gives access to the rich ecosystem of fairs, galleries and collections.
A book that seeks to provide “the essential tools to maneuver skillfully in the art market and ensure that each acquisition is not only rewarding, but also adds value and satisfaction to your experience as a collector.”
