Norma Bessouet (1940-2018)
(OBITUARY)
The disappearance of Norma Bessouet on June 11 in Buenos Aires indicates an important loss for Argentine art that can not and should not be overlooked. A colorful teacher, illustrator and portrait painter, owner of a captivating lyricism, goldsmith of art and alchemist of painting and engraving as the masters with whom she perfected herself in Italy and England after graduating from the Prilidiano Pueyrredón in 1967, Bessouet spent for Spain to settle in New York where she lived between 1981 and 2015 when she returned to Buenos Aires.
An intergenerational exhibition dedicated to graphic art takes place at the National Museum of the Estampa (Mexico)
At the Museo Nacional de la Estampa (Munae), in Mexico, two exhibitions express the creative freedom of graphic artistic experiences of today. Hacia un poliedro perfecto: Siete lustros del Taller Gráfica Bordes (Towards a perfect polyhedron: Seven decades of the Bordes Graphic Workshop) and La Trampa Gráfica Contemporánea, give testimony of 35 years of history of an emblematic space dedicated to the art of engraving and printing. Until July 15th, the Mexican Fine Arts venue invites all those who wish to appreciate the contemporary graphic and editorial creation of their country.
Contemporary art takes the Tranque Cultural Center
For the first time, at the Tranque Cultural Center in Chile, a show dedicated to contemporary art is presented. Narrativas – Colección Pedro Montes (Narratives - Pedro Montes Collection) presents paintings, photographs, objects, drawings, sculptures, installations and video installations created by Latin American artists that address common issues such as marginality, violence and racism throughout history.
Final Exhibition of the Artists Program 2017 at Torcuato Di Tella University, in Buenos Aires, Argentina
At the Torcuato Di Tella University (UTDT), in Argentita, the closing of the Artists Program, which is proposed every year, is held. The series began last week with the feature film Reel, by Ariel Chezses, and the exhibition Ya nos estamos yendo (We are already leaving). The closing will have place on June 23rd with the curatorial project Lo que mueve la quietud (What moves the stillness), cured by Gonzalo Lagos and Guillermina Mogan. As a manifesto of the exhibition, the artists involved in the program wrote: "This final exhibition of the Artists Program tries to present the experiences and affections that go through last year. It is, therefore, to propose a setting in the abyss that problematizes, with a series of fluctuating energies, our coexistence for a year and a half. That is, with a compendium of antagonistic passions that we share, from love to sadness, from laughter to tears, and that were gradually inscribed in our body"
Once again, Ricardo Wiesse presents at the ICPNA
Once again the Instituto Peruano Norteamericano (ICPNA) houses the works of the Peruvian painter Ricardo Wiesse, this time at the Germán Krüger Espantoso room, in Miraflores. In this opportunity Wiesse presents his last decade artworks: medium and large format abstract canvas, painted stones, figurative landscapes of the Limean coast, oil paintings and paper drawings. Década Reciente (Recent Decade) opens on Thursday 14th and will be until July 22nd.
Isabel Aninat presents Fronteras Naturales, by Mateo Maté
From June 13, at the Isabel Aninat Gallery, Mateo Maté presents Fronteras Naturales (Natural Frontiers). For the first time in Chile, the Spanish artist performs an individual exhibition in which the viewer is placed at the center of the dilemma of physical borders and territorial limits, and where geography is at the service of politics when it is established as a natural barrier and an excuse to exercise sovereignty over a certain territoriality.
Anni Albers, a key figure for modern art, has her own retrospective at the Kunstsammlung Nordrhein-Westfalen museum
At the Kunstsammlung Nordrhein-Westfalen museum in Düsseldorf, a retrospective of the German artist Anni Albers (1899-1994) occupies the halls. Born in Berlin, Albers was a multifaceted artist who established weaving as an art form and united this ancient cultural technology with modern artistic practices.
Desórdenes sistémicos: from Chile to Argentina at the Matta Cultural Center
Desórdenes sistémicos (Sistemic disorders) is an exhibition organized and coordinated by SÍSMICA (a public-private initiative that seeks to strengthen the presence and promotion of the Chilean visual arts in the world), the Association of Contemporary Art Galleries of Chile and ProChile, which proposes an approach to one of the most active and dynamic scenes of Latin American art today. The exhibition takes place at the Matta Cultural Center, in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
Amazonia,by Roberto Huarcaya , at Rolf gallery in Buenos Aires
In the year 2014, the Peruvian artist, psychologist and photographer, Roberto Huarcaya –along with other artists- started a trip to the Bahuaja Sonene National Park located in the region of Puno, Peru. However, faced with the impossibility of representing the emotions and reactions that the forest provoked to him, Huarcaya went back about seven times more to the reserve. The result: Amazonia. The series of photograms will be presented at Rolf gallery from June 14 to July 27.
ARCOlisboa 2018: grows in quality
