MAC LIMA LAUNCHES ITS CYCLE OF TEMPORARY EXHIBITIONS

The Museo de Arte Contemporáneo de Lima (MAC Lima) begins its 2025 cycle of temporary exhibitions with the solo shows of Yaker and Rafael Pascuale, both open to the public until May 25, 2025.

Conversaciones en el zoológico features nearly 70 works, including paintings in large, medium, and small formats in which animals take center stage. In these pieces, the artist depicts the animals engaged in conversation under various circumstances. To achieve this, he draws on European paintings from the 12th and 13th centuries known as “conversation pieces,” in which different people were portrayed in similar contexts. From a contemporary perspective, Yaker replaces human figures with fragments of landscapes, narratives, fauna, and other references in complex compositions.

This exhibition is curated by Augusto Del Valle and originates from the impact of the 2020 pandemic, when the absence of people led to the appearance of animals on streets, avenues, and parks.

On the other hand, Espejos de una humanidad perdida presents a baroque reinterpretation of the human body with a disturbing and critical vision, inspired by European painters such as Ribera, Reni, and Rubens, but updated in such a way that the artist reconfigures scenes by creating deformed anatomies with multiple limbs yet without face or identity; in the words of curator Ramón Mujica, Pascuale has created a powerful visual metaphor that personifies the modern dehumanization of society and war.

Moico Yaker (Lima, 1949) studied between 1969 and 1981 in Jerusalem, London, and Paris. He has exhibited in important international and national shows. He is currently a professor at the Escuela de Arte y Diseño Corriente Alterna and chairs the jury of the Contemporary Painting Contest of the Central Reserve Bank of Peru.

Rafael Pascuale (Lima, 1987), a self-taught artist, has participated in various national and international group exhibitions. He has received important distinctions, including the Premio Mapfre de las Artes (2017) and the “Dos generaciones” drawing contest of the British Council (2018, 2022).

Espejos de una humanidad perdida and Conversaciones en el zoológico will be on view until May 25, 2025 at MAC Lima, located at Av. Miguel Grau 1511, Barranco (Peru).
