MALI 2024 AUCTION: THE TEXTILE ART EDITION
The Lima Museum of Art (MALI) announced the thirty-second edition of its annual auction, dedicated in this occasion to textile art, a heritage that played a fundamental role in Peru's cultural history. The event will take place on October 19 at the museum and will feature a selection of more than 70 pieces of art, from historic textiles to contemporary works.
The catalog features nine carefully curated sessions that will offer a comprehensive look at the evolution of textiles as an art form and as a cultural symbol. Among the featured sections are: Costumes of the Country, Traditions and Innovation, Contemporary Session and The Art of Fiber. Through these sessions, attendees will be able to appreciate the role of textiles in the formation of Peru's cultural identities, celebrating both regional traditions and modern approaches to textile design.
Among the pieces presented are works by renowned artists such as Elena Izcue and Reynaldo Luza, pioneers of Peruvian textile design, Irma Poma and Pedro Gonzalez, representing regional traditions such as burilado matte and imagery. The Amazon is represented with pieces by Olinda Silvano and Chonon Bensho. Likewise, the auction will include works by renowned exponents in sessions dedicated to modern and contemporary art artists such as Jorge Eduardo Eielson, Camilo Blas, Julia Codesido, and young talents such as Violeta Quispe and Ana Teresa Barbosa.
Through the Bisquare platform, the auction will reach a wider, global audience. With live broadcasts from Madrid, London and New York, collectors and art enthusiasts from around the world will be able to participate in the bidding.
