THREE ARTISTS QUESTIONING OFFICIAL NARRATIVES AT MAMBO

The Museum of Modern Art of Bogota (MAMBO) presents its first exhibition cycle of 2025 with Colombian artist Julieth Morales, Chilean artist Seba Calfuqueo, and Brazilian artist UÝRA. They address, from different perspectives, the relationship between identity, territory and memory, proposing new forms of resistance.

THREE ARTISTS QUESTIONING OFFICIAL NARRATIVES AT MAMBO

From the Misak people, Julieth Morales, with her exhibition Namui nu pirꝋ (Our Territory), articulates collective action and Indigenous female memory in a dialogue that challenges the boundaries between art and ritual. Her work highlights community weaving and territorial connection as forms of resistance and cultural reaffirmation.

Meanwhile, Seba Calfuqueo, a trans Mapuche artist, explores the intersection of gender, history, and the environment in their exhibition ANTÜ ÑI KURAM (Sun’s Egg). Their work recovers and reinterprets ancestral narratives, reflecting on colonization and the exclusion of dissident identities, while emphasizing the deep relationship between the Mapuche people and nature.

From the Brazilian Amazon, UÝRA and their exhibition Memórias de alagamento (Flooded Memories) immerse us in a vision where bodies of water act as living archives of history, resistance, and Indigenous spirituality. Their work denounces the impact of extractivism and excessive urbanization, reclaiming the memory of rivers and displaced communities.

This exhibition cycle fosters a dialogue between different geographies and temporalities, where bodies, landscapes, and histories intertwine to redefine the past and offer new interpretations of the present.

Although all three artists have participated in major biennials and international exhibitions, this marks their institutional solo debut at MAMBO. Through this, MAMBO reaffirms its role as a laboratory for contemporary artistic experimentation, a position it has upheld throughout its history.

The first 2025 cycle will take place from March 13 to June 1 at MAMBO, located at Calle 24 # 6-00, in downtown Bogota (Colombia).
