RUTH BENZACAR GALLERY OF ART CELEBRATES 60 YEARS OF HISTORY
The institution commemorates six decades of trajectory reaffirming its commitment to Argentine artistic production and the continuous development of its scene. To kick off the great year, it presents Estudio para la restauración de un perfil (Study for the Restoration of a Profile) by Ana Gallardo and Alquimia para tiempos turbios (Alchemy for Turbulent Times) by Marina De Caro.

Founded in 1965 by Ruth Benzacar (1932-2000), the gallery has been a pillar in the promotion, dissemination, and commercialization of contemporary Argentine art, representing both established and emerging artists. Currently based in Buenos Aires, it is directed by Orly Benzacar and Mora Bacal, the third generation of pioneering gallerists in the national art market. The gallery remains a key reference in Argentina and a forerunner in the region, actively participating in national and international fairs.
Ruth Benzacar was one of the main promoters of the expansion of Argentine art in the international market. In 1991, she was recognized as one of the 200 best gallerists in the world and played a fundamental role in the reconsideration of Antonio Berni, promoting his works abroad. She was also a member of the Organizing Committee of ARCO in Madrid between 1990 and 1999, becoming the first Latin American to hold that position. In 1996, she received the Visual Arts Award from the Argentine Association of Critics in recognition of her career, and in 1998, she was appointed an advisory member of Art Miami.
The gallery presents two exhibitions:
Ana Gallardo - Study for the Restoration of a Profile
Ruth Benzacar Gallery of Art opens its 2025 season with a series of pieces that emerge from Ana Gallardo’s long-standing effort to restore the profile of her artist mother. This artistic practice seeks not only to repair but also to enable new possibilities and developments. A showcase of three generations of women artists, coinciding with the celebration of three generations of gallerists who have shaped Ruth Benzacar into Argentina's most enduring contemporary art gallery. The exhibition will be displayed in the gallery’s main hall and will be accompanied by a text from Kekena Corvalán.
Marina De Caro - Alchemy for Turbulent Times
The gallery will also present a collection of 33 prints by Marina De Caro featuring texts she authored, inspired by the fictional correspondence between the philosopher and women's rights advocate Olympe de Gouges and the utopian socialist Charles Fourier. True to the gallery’s spirit over the past 60 years, this exhibition sees De Caro "shaking up the consensus on what should happen in an exhibition space and what interactions are possible and desirable between works, bodies, and perceptions." The exhibition will take place in Hall 2 of the gallery and will be accompanied by a text by Guadalupe Maradei.
