This twelfth posting will continue to inform our online readers of the unprecedented exhibition Pacific Standard Time: LA/LA that offers thematically linked exhibitions and programs in a four-month-long, region-wide exploration of Latin American and Latino Art in dialogue with Los Angeles. Following its presentation at Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA), the exhibition will travel to the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston (November 2017–February 2018). This exhibition was organized by the UCLA Chicano Studies Research Center; the Los Angeles County Museum of Art; and the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston. Equilibrium invites viewers into the rigorous working process of pioneering Colombian-born artist Fanny Sanín. Known for her colorful geometric abstract compositions, Sanín makes between four and eighteen carefully composed preliminary works for each finished painting.

The below is the press release from the Fowler Museum at UCLA, Axé Bahia: The Power of Art in an Afro-Brazilian Metropolis. 

Lumen, an immersive, interactive installation by Jenny Sabin Studio, is on view in MoMA PS1’s courtyard through September 4. The structure evolves over the course of the day, with responsive textiles that display subtle color in sunlight and emit glowing light after sundown.

Golden Kingdoms: Luxury Arts in the Ancient Americas is my tenth posting. The exhibition is one of three that includes Colección Patricia Phelps de Cisneros (5^th posting) and Photography in Argentina: Contradiction and Continuity (9^th posting). The three exhibitions are organized by the Getty, which is publishing three catalogues covering a diverse body of Latin American material culture and artwork by artists working in concrete or neo-concrete languages in postwar art in Argentina and Brazil to contemporary photographers capturing life today to luxury arts of the ancient Americas. The Getty is presenting work that deepens the fields of art history, conservation, and Latin American history. 

The Museum of Art Patricia & Phillip Frost FIU celebrates this summer the art of Mexican photography with two exhibitions: Becoming Mexico: Manuel Carrillo's Photography and Possible Worlds: Photography and Fiction in Mexican Contemporary Art.

Next Thursday, July 13, In the Beginning, the first exhibition of work by Diane Arbus (New York, 1923-1971) to be held in Argentina, will open at MALBA. Curated by Jeff L. Rosenheim, Curator in Charge of the Department of Photographs at The Metropolitan Museum of Art (The Met), this exhibition of one of the most influential photographers of the twentieth century brings together over one hundred photographs produced by the artist between 1956 and 1962, the period when she developed the themes central to her oeuvre and her singular vision, which attempted, as the artist herself put it, to register “divineness in ordinary things.” The exhibition is the first collaboration between The Met and any institution in Argentina.

The Museum of Modern Art has acquired an original model of the Fiat 500F “Berlina,” commonly referred to as the Cinquecento.

For the first time, a large solo exhibition on the internationally renowned artist Tomás Saraceno (born in 1973 in San Miguel de Tucumán, Argentina) is to be held in Switzerland. Curated by Sabine Schaschl, the exhibition could be visited until 3 September 2017.
