The official launch of the XIV edition of the Biennial of Cuenca: "Living Structures: Rituals without Myths in Contemporary Art" was held on Thursday, August 24 at the Bienal's headquarters (Bolívar 13-89 and Estévez de Toral) a thesis proposed by the Venezuelan curator Jesus Fuenmayor, who makes an exposition of his conceptual proposal. In the same way, the Venezuelan artist and professor Yucef Merhi was presented, which has a charge of the pedagogical curatorship of the next edition that will take place in November 2018.

With this 14^th posting, Playing with Fire: Paintings by Carlos Almaraz, is part of Pacific Standard Time: LA/LA, a far-reaching and ambitious exploration of Latin American and Latino art in dialogue with Los Angeles, taking place from September 2017 through January 2018 at more than 70 cultural institutions across Southern California. The 9.99 Gallery is pleased to present Darío Escobar / Órbitas imperfectas (Darío Escobar / Imperfect Orbits). The show gathers circular and elliptical pieces that refer to the trajectories that planets draw around the sun. When pondering about these orbits, Escobar suggests the breaking of the ellipsis, which then allows a more dynamic and complex form in space.

This exhibition was organized by the UCLA Chicano Studies Research Center; the Los Angeles County Museum of Art; and the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston. Equilibrium invites viewers into the rigorous working process of pioneering Colombian-born artist Fanny Sanín. Known for her colorful geometric abstract compositions, Sanín makes between four and eighteen carefully composed preliminary works for each finished painting.

Lumen, an immersive, interactive installation by Jenny Sabin Studio, is on view in MoMA PS1’s courtyard through September 4. The structure evolves over the course of the day, with responsive textiles that display subtle color in sunlight and emit glowing light after sundown.
