CAYCEDO’S LAND OF FRIENDS AT VALENCIA’S IVAM
Carolina Caycedo’s (London, UK, 1978) Tierra de los amigos (Land of Friends) arrives at the IVAM in Valencia after its run at the Artium museum in Vitoria. This is the second itinerancy of this exhibition co-produced by both entities, which is her first major solo exhibition in Europe. In this tour, practically a retrospective of the work of the last two decades, it will be possible to contemplate works in which interaction and the process of construction are key, fundamental elements on which the artist of Colombian origin has been building her imaginary.

Thus, the exhibition gathers fundamental projects in Caycedo's work, from Be Dammed (2012-ongoing), a project that dissects the impact of large engineering works, to her famous Museo de la Calle, an installation that focuses on barter and exchange as a social nexus and field of research.
With all that conceptual iconography, Carolina Caycedo suggests to the necessary spectator different approaches on how to deal with the environment from an active political point of view that derives in a critical thinking towards the affections that inaction has, such as the impact on communities and its consequences. He will also bring the radical vision of the world from its roots, applying the politics of indigenist and decolonial vindication that cause his area of study to expand organically, having to accentuate the underlining of other underlying issues such as immigration.
Carolina Caycedo. Tierra de los amigos (Land of Friends) is open from June 13 to October 13 at IVAM (Centre Julio González), Guillem de Castro, 118, Valencia, Spain.
