THE GEOMETRIC AND THE CONCRETE OF WALDO BALART IN CASADO SANTAPAU GALLERY

From 06/12/2024 to 07/27/2024
Madrid, Spain

Madrid's Casado Santapau presents a retrospective exhibition of the work of Waldo Balart (Banes, Cuba, 1931), which covers the minimalist and precise, almost mathematical proposal of the geometries and the concrete abstraction of his works.

Balart deepened and influenced the power of the support and the materialization of life on it, reflecting not only that formal purity, possibly the result of balance and a certain vocation for chromatic beauty, but also as an uncontaminated form of direct representation of the experience.

Through the tour of this exhibition, we gain knowledge of the use and meaning of colour and pure lines in the final result of his proposal, which has led him to be one of the most recognized figures of concrete and abstract art in Latin America, despite a certain institutional concealment in his native Cuba due to his residence in the United States in the 1960s and, later, in Europe. Also, perhaps because of his condition as a bridge between geographies, the study and academic revaluation of his work has seen a recent rebirth, and exhibitions like Casado Santapau's offer an instrumental vision for its study and vindication.

Waldo Balart: Less for More can be seen through July 27 at Casado Santapau Gallery, 10 Piamonte St., Madrid, Spain.
