GEOMETRY AND RUPTURE: ARDEN QUIN AT THE MACA
The Atchugarry Museum of Contemporary Art (MACA) presents the exhibition Carmelo Arden Quin: In the Fabric of Constructive Art, curated by renowned historian and scholar Cristina Rossi.

Carmelo Arden Quin played a fundamental role in the evolution of constructive art. His work, characterized by a geometric approach that transcends the boundaries of the rectangular form, is showcased in this exhibition in a fascinating dialogue with the production of other Uruguayan artists such as Joaquín Torres García, Rhod Rothfuss, Volf Roitman, and Bolívar Gaudín.
Together with other artists, he challenged established norms, transforming the relationship between art and space. His creative pursuit left an indelible mark on the culture, design, and architecture of Latin America. The exhibition highlights these contributions, emphasizing the richness and diversity of the movement.

Born in Rivera in 1913, a region influenced by both Uruguayan and Brazilian cultures, Arden Quin studied in Montevideo, where he met Joaquín Torres García in 1935—an encounter that proved decisive for his artistic development. In 1938, he moved to Buenos Aires, where he became an active participant in the cultural scene. Later, in 1948, he settled in Paris, where he exhibited and published his work until his passing in 2010 in Savigny-sur-Orge, France.
After being showcased at the National Museum of Fine Arts in Buenos Aires and the La Moneda Cultural Center in Santiago, Chile, the exhibition will continue its journey at the Museum of Visual Arts in Montevideo.
