POETRY IN THE DIGITAL WORLD AT MAC LIMA
The Museum of Contemporary Art of Lima (MAC Lima) presents La poesía es una invasión (Poetry is an invasion), a retrospective celebrating the 25-year career of José Aburto Zolezzi, a pioneer in experimental electronic literature.
This exhibition reaffirms MAC Lima's commitment to advancing art that integrates technology and new media, while also reopening its temporary collections galleries to the public. Curated by Roberto Valdivia, La poesía es una invasión features a selection of interactive works, object-poems, texts, and hypermedia literature that invite the audience to reflect on the integration of digital elements into everyday life. Through technological innovation and a critical examination of the boundaries between the virtual and the real, the exhibition asserts that such distinctions have become obsolete in the contemporary world.
José Aburto Zolezzi is an undisputed leader in the field of digital poetics. A member of the Electronic Literature Organization (ELO) and co-founder of Lit(e)Lat (Latin American Electronic Literature Network), his work has been showcased in over 20 exhibitions across 14 countries and is included in major electronic literature archives worldwide. Throughout his career, Aburto has explored the limits of language and poetry by employing digital formats, innovative mediums, and interactive writing methods, offering a unique, technological, and deeply personal reinterpretation of poetic expression.
The exhibition not only highlights the influence of technology on art and literature but also aims to foster an active dialogue with the public. To this end, MAC Lima has organized a free public program featuring guided tours, workshops, and discussions on electronic literature and experimental writing, led by José Aburto himself and curator Roberto Valdivia. These activities will take place throughout January and February 2025, enhancing the experience for those engaging with this innovative project.
Visitors can enjoy this exhibition until February 23, 2025, delving into how poetry, in its digital transformation, can become a creative and thought-provoking invasion in the contemporary world.
