ARDE - ALEKANDRO CHASKIELBERG'S PROJECT AT GACHI PRIETO
ARDE is the exhibition with Alejandro Chaskielberg and Don Rouch, guest artist, that brings together a series of works on which they have recently collaborated.
ARDE is a narrative that documents the most devastating fire in the history of Argentina. During six months in 2021, Alejandro Chaskielberg made an exhaustive record of the different causes and social and environmental consequences of this catastrophe. The introduction of non-native trees, the land takeovers of old pine plantations that burned to the ground, and the people who lost everything in the fires are the subjects of one of his latest photographic series. Accompanied by unique pieces of jewelry and goldsmithing by Don Rouch, which work with the imagery of these photographs, the exhibition establishes a dialogue between the different ways of representing an incident of such magnitude.
Alejandro Chaskielberg: “This fire is a premonition of what is to come, a mirror of what is already happening in other parts of the world such as the United States, Australia, or Greece. We inhabit a planet that is warming due to climate change, and in which humans are both accomplices and actors in our own destruction. The Earth will survive, even if millions of years go by, and other animals will come, other vegetation ... But will others be here to admire it?”
