THE INSTALLATION OF MARCOS BENITEZ AT ICPA

Luciérnagas humanas al ras de la tierra is a video installation that transports visitors to the early morning of the Cateura Lagoon, Asuncion's municipal landfill. There, Marcos Benítez learned about the harshness of night work, desolation and plundering. But also the dignity and tenderness of beings alienated by need and helplessness. The name alludes to the precarious lighting system used to dig through the waste. The projection takes place inside a large black bag into which the viewer must enter.

The exhibition opens on August 8, 2024, during Asunción's art week at Pinta Sud | ASU 2024.
