Notes related to Argentina

From August 27 to September 3, 2023, the fourth edition of Art Week will take place with more than 100 activities to enjoy throughout the city of Buenos Aires and 8 new works to discover in public spaces.

The Argentine architecture Amancio Williams was chosen for the iteration of Canadian Centre for Architecture’s Out of the Box exhibition series.

The experience of visiting the exhibition of Martín Reyna (Buenos Aires, Argentina) at the galerie Bessiere called Fluides is truly captivating. To achieve this, the artist took full advantage of the topographical qualities of the exhibition space. Fluides is an installation that maps the artist's work including a selection of paintings, many of them in large format on paper as the main support.

Aimé Iglesias Lukin is an art historian and curator. Born and raised in Buenos Aires, she has been living in New York since 2011. She earned her PhD in art history from Rutgers University with a dissertation titled "This Must Be the Place: Latin American Artists in New York 1965–1975," which became an exhibition at Americas Society in 2021. Her writings have been featured at international conferences and published by prestigious museums and academic journals, including the New Museum, the Museum of Modern Art, and the Guggenheim Museum.

The Museo de Arte Latinoamericano de Buenos Aires (MALBA) opens Luz y Fuerza (Light and Strength), an exhibition that brings together nineteen contemporary Argentinean artists whose works revolve around spirituality.

The exhibition Manifiesto verde (Green Manifesto) at the Museo Moderno de Buenos Aires takes its title from the declaration written in 1971 by artist Nicolás García Uriburu in which he expressed his desire to denounce the antagonism between nature and civilization.

Photography and Democracy 1983-2023), an exhibition of photographic projects that revisit Argentina's recent past and provide a better understanding of the present time. It is curated by Francisco Medail.

In line with the Carbon Neutral 2050 Plan that brings together the main cities of the world –including Buenos Aires– the Museo de Arte Moderno measured its carbon footprint as a first step to know its environmental impact and begin to take measures to reduce it.

Fundación Ama Amoedo announces the call for the Grants Fundación Ama Amoedo. With the aim of providing resources and opportunities for the strengthening of the art ecosystem and its institutions, a total of 100,000 USD will be divided into 10 grants of 10,000 USD. Deadline to apply: May 15^th, 2023.

Del cielo a casa. Conexiones e intermitencias en la cultura material argentina  (From Heaven to Home. Connections and Intermittences in Argentina's Material Culture) is the exhibition at the Museo de Arte Latinoamericano de Buenos Aires (MALBA) that brings together more than 600 pieces, including objects, works of art and documents that make up Argentina's everyday life.

The exhibition Río Sil, lines and geometries by Irene Kopelman at the Fundación Cerezales Antonino y Cinia, approaches the landscape of the Sil river bank reiterating a model of observation that affects the relationship between art and natural sciences.

Les Abattoirs presents the first retrospective in France of Liliana Porter (born in Argentina in 1941, living in New York since 1964). With approximately one hundred works on display, the exhibition takes the viewer on a voyage through her art. 

The exhibition presents more than thirty works by the Spanish artist preserved in the institutional collection, commemorating the 50th anniversary of his death.

The 2023 edition of Pinta BAphoto will take place from September 28th to October 1st at La Rural, Pavilion 8, Buenos Aires, Argentina. The deadline for the call for artists and galleries is Friday, March 31, 2023.

Rolf Art announces the institutional acquisition by the MUSEO NACIONAL CENTRO DE ARTE REINA SOFIA (MNCARS) of the work La Clase, 1st year, 6th division, from the series Buena Memoria by Marcelo Brodsky (b.1954, Buenos Aires, Argentina).

MACBA presents the exhibition Line and Vibration by Josefina Robirosa. It is curated by Rodrigo Alonso.

At the Museo de Bellas Artes, images by artist Alicia D'Amico are displayed in Podría ser yo (It could be me), that wereincluded in the historic essay by Elizabeth Jelin and Pablo Vila, published in 1987, on daily life in working-class neighborhoods.
