In this 59th International Art Exhibition – La Biennale di Venezia, the largest contemporary art event in the world, the artist selected to represent Argentina is Mónica Heller, who will show in the Argentine pavilion the video installation entitled The Origin of Substance Will Matter the Importance of Origin. The project, which has the curatorship of Alejo Ponce de León, was chosen among the 40 proposals that were presented in a public and open call.
MARCELO BRODSKY EXHIBITS “STAND FOR DEMOCRACY: MYANMAR”
Organized by Human Rights Art Initiative and art+château, this photographic exhibition in Zurich features artist and human rights activist Marcelo Brodsky (b. 1954, Buenos Aires, Argentina) along with video works and a performance by Ko Latt, Yadanar Win, Lily and Zoncy, who represent the new generation of Burmese artists and whose work reveal elements of Myanmar’s social, political, and cultural narrative. BORN OF INFORMALISMO: MARTA MINUJÍN AND THE NASCENT BODY OF PERFORMANCE
The Institute for Studies on Latin American Art (ISLAA) announced the opening of Born of Informalismo: Marta Minujín and the Nascent Body of Performance, curated by Michaëla de Lacaze Mohrmann. The third in a series of exhibitions on Latin American modernism and its legacies, this show examines the early work of trailblazing Argentine artist Marta Minujín (b. 1943), tracing her trajectory from informalist painting and sculpture to performance.
ROLF ART OBTAINS THE LEXUS AWARD FOR THE BEST STAND AT ARCOmadrid
Lexus, official partner of ARCOmadrid 2022, awarded for the second year the Prize for the Best Stand and Artistic Content of the edition with a prize of 10,000 euros. "A COLLECTION, TWO LETTERS AND A METEOR" AT THE NATIONAL MUSEUM OF FINE ARTS
On February 16th, the exhibition "Una colección, dos cartas y un meteoro" (A Collection, Two Letters and a Meteor) was inaugurated at the Museo Nacional de Bellas Artes (Buenos Aires) with the work of artist Cristian Segura and curatorship by art historian María Guadalupe Suasnábar. The exhibition revalues the sculpture Météore (1981) by Alicia Penalba (San Pedro, 1913-París, 1982) through an installation by Segura (Tandil, 1976) about the letters exchanged between Penalba and those responsible for the Torcuato Di Tella Institute between 1961 and 1962.
MÓNICA HELLER FOR THE ARGENTINE PAVILION AT THE 2022 VENICE BIENNIAL
Heller's proposal has been selected from more than 30 preliminary projects presented in an open call through the Argentine Foreign Ministry and consists of a multi-channel 3D animation video installation. The curator of the exhibition is Alejo Ponce de León.
THE MACA IN MANANTIALES EXHIBITS LEÓN FERRARI: ENCAPSULATED GRAPHICS
The MACA (Atchugarry Museum of Contemporary Art) hosts until mid-April the great exhibition entitled Gráfica Encapsulada (Encapsulated Graphics) by the Argentine artist León Ferrari. The show features a series of works dating back to the 1980s.
NO WALLS, BUT TRANSPARENCIES
"The ruins in their singularity are the most living thing in history, since only what has survived its destruction, what has remained in ruins, lives historically," says María Zambrano. Jorge Scrimaglio, Argentine architect, is a builder who appeals to that spirit that Kahn defined in the same sense: “you have to surround buildings with ruins”. And a building that appeals to be a ruin, with walls that are not such, that house emptiness and serve as support to a sense that extends triumphant; as a way of survival, not from what it was, but from what it did not become. Empty as absence. Making concrete a possibility not yet realized, like the life of the ruins that are indefinite and more than any other spectacle awakens in the mind of those who contemplate them the impression of an infinity.
MoMA’S COLLECTION GALLERY EXHIBITS MARTA MINUJÍN’S “MINUCODE”
The exhibition includes this piece by Argentine artist Minujín which exposes a meta-narrative of the art world and other spheres, their different agents and interrelations.
