MARCOS LÓPEZ’S (SUD) AMÉRICA

From 06/17/2024 to 07/13/2024
Madrid, Spain

As part of its participation in PhotoEspaña, the Fernando Pradilla Gallery presents the work of Marcos Lopez (Santa Fe, Argentina, 1958), one of the most outstanding Latin American photographers on the scene and a regular on the circuits with his peculiar and characteristic conception of life in South America, where everyday life is combined with exaggeration and color that give him an unmistakable trademark.

MARCOS LÓPEZ’S (SUD) AMÉRICA

For the occasion, and under the descriptive title (Sud) América, a group of iconic photographs of the artist are gathered in the Madrid space, almost like a small retrospective, which reflect, almost in a documentary way and with a certain irony, the social, political and economic complexity of the region, that "texture of underdevelopment" to which the Argentinean photographer alludes almost as a nexus of union of his work. Thus, Marcos López reinterprets and practically elevates the stereotypes of his native Argentina and, in an effort to extend that common "cause", of Latin America, to a definitive popular imaginary.

With this combination of combined portraits, which bet on balance in the face of diversity and on clichés as plot threads, López acquires a personal trademark that, over time, has been consolidated as a great hall of exaggerated and bizarre scenes that have managed to permeate the satirical environment hidden under "the Latin American" concept.

(Sud) América can be seen until July 13 at Fernando Pradilla Gallery, Claudio Coello Street, 20, Madrid, Spain.
